A trip to the past to appreciate modern dentistry services in Rose Hill
Hello. I am Dr. Mark Troilo. Along with Dr. Jessica Niederee and our team at Rose Hill General and Cosmetic Dentistry, I bring some of the latest advancements in dental care to our patients in Rose Hill, Kansas and surrounding areas. Before I tell you more about our dental services, let’s take a fun little look at the history of dentistry.
The earliest evidence of dentistry dates back to 7000 BC. Dentists in the Indus Valley of Pakistan used bow drills. The Slovenians filled teeth with beeswax some 6,500 years ago. In 5000 BC, Sumerians, as well as residents of ancient China, Japan, Egypt, and India recognized decay and believed it was caused by a “tooth worm.” That culprit is also mentioned in Homer’s writings and in 14th century texts. Greek scholars wrote about dental services as varied as treating decay and gum disease, extracting teeth with forceps, and using wires for stabilization of loose teeth. Dental amalgam was invented in the Tang Dynasty in about 659.
In the 18th century, dental extractions were a form of punishment, and throughout history, as a means to treat various illnesses. Starting in the Middles Ages and through the 19th century, extractions were commonly performed by barbers or surgeons without anesthetic. They hung strings of rotten teeth outside their shops to advertise.
Fortunately for my patients in the Rose Hill area, dental services have changed tremendously. We provide a range of general and cosmetic care for the entire family including:
- Hygiene examinations and cleanings to prevent oral problems.
- Restorative care with modern technology and a gentle touch. Fillings, bondings, crowns, bridges, root canal therapy, as well as oral surgery. We can provide sedation dentistry to ensure pleasant visits for even the most fearful patients.
- Cosmetic dentistry to help healthy smiles really pop. It could be as simple as professional whitening, or efficient as porcelain veneers to disguise chips, cracks, deep discoloration, or spacing flaws. Maybe you’d like a full smile makeover with a combination of treatments.
There’s never been a better time in history to enjoy the overall wellness benefits of a healthy mouth and the gorgeous smile that goes along with it. I invite you to call Rose Hill General & Cosmetic Dentistry at (316) 776-2144 or contact me by email at email@example.com to experience contemporary dental care with compassion.
