Sedation Dentistry

IV Sedation:

Sedation Dentistry Rose HillFor those people that really have a hard time in the dental chair, we offer the opportunity to experience I.V. Sedation. During your procedures, you will be very deeply sedated and not remember anything of the procedure. You will be able to leave within the hour after completion of the dental procedure, but someone will need to drive you home. You should have some form of supervision at home, and not participate in any activities that day in which alertness or physical activity would be involved.
Those patients that would find this avenue to having dentistry performed desirable:

1. For very high levels of apprehension in adults and children.
2. For a large amount of work to be performed on a child.
3. For patients with a low pain tolerance.
4. For patients with physical handicaps, TMJ issues, or a strong gag reflex.
5. It can be used for just about any procedure, and especially for extractions or very long appointments.

Special Anesthesia Services is a company that works with our dental office to provide sedation dentistry. Ron Keller is a CRNA, and he and his staff perform this service in our office. His web site is www.sleepinsafety.com.

Some charges will be covered by the insurance. Many times your medical insurance will pay the anesthesia charges of children under a certain age, patients with a certain physical or mental handicap, or patients with a certain medical necessity. Please contact Sleep Anesthesia Services at 316-788-5939 or go to their web site at www.sleepinsafety.com to have your questions answered about fees or anything else you may need answers to. Kim Gates is their office administrator and will be available to help you anytime.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas):

For anxious patients. You will be awake, but it has a calming effect that will help you relax during the procedure. Sometimes you will not remember parts of the procedure. The beauty of this type of sedation is that within minutes, it is reversible with oxygen and you can drive yourself home. The side effects are very few, with occasional minor nausea.
