Awards and Honors

Graduated “Summa Cum Laude” from Kansas Newman University in 1974.
Received the Leon A. McNeill Distinguished Alumni Award from Kansas Newman University in 1990. The Leon A. McNeill Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually by the Newman University National Alumni Association Board of Directors to honor alumni of distinction.

Persons chosen for this honor are:
- Graduates of Sacred Heart Academy or College, Kansas Newman College or Newman University.
- Persons of good character.
- Persons who have achieved outstanding success in their personal or professional life, and through civic, intellectual or cultural pursuits have brought credit to themselves and in turn to their alma mater.
The award is named after Father Leon A. McNeill, who was a person of such caliber. His zeal and care resulted in several “firsts” for the Catholic Diocese of Wichita. He was the first superintendent of Catholic schools and was a street preacher. Furthermore, he was the first president of Sacred Heart Junior College. He worked unceasingly for education both in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine office and in adult education programs.
He was recognized as one of the nations top leaders as a continuing education lecturer from 2007 - 2011 by Dentistry Today – which is billed as the “Nation’s Leading Clinical News Magazine for Dentists.”
Selected as one of Wichita’s “Top Dentists” in 2008 by Wichita Magazine. This list was derived from polling conducted by TopDentists, Inc., a third-party research firm that specializes in assimilating peer-review referral guides for the dental field. The company’s methodology has been refined and improved time and again with the input of several prominent dentists throughout the United States and represents more than twenty years of experience in conducting research for the dental field.
